1 c lentils
water
turmeric
salt
ghee or butter
1 tsp cumin seeds
dried chiles
red chili powder
asafoetida
tadka
lime juice
cilantro
  1. 1. Rinse 1cup lentils.
  2. 2. Add the rinsed lentils, water (amount depends on the type of lentil), turmeric, and salt to the Instant Pot.
  3. 3. Set the Instant Pot to high (or in some cases, low) pressure and cook for 6 to 20 minutes with natural pressure release.
  4. 4. Separately, melt some ghee or butter in a pan and add 1teaspoon cumin seeds, dried chiles, red chili powder, and asafoetida.
  5. 5. Spoon the fried spices tadka over the finished dal.
  6. 6. Complete with a generous squeeze of lime juice and cilantro.
